The law now allows authorized Florida residents to carry a concealed firearm or other weapons - within the state of Florida only! - without a concealed weapons license - however if you wish to travel to another state, reciprocity will not be honored if you do NOT have a Florida Concealed Handgun license.
We recommend that if you are not interested in traveling to other states with your weapons, or even if you are - that you get training somewhere. If you are not interested in getting training with us, your local Police or Sheriff Department may hold citizen classes for firearm training (you can call them for additional information).
We HIGHLY recommend that you get firearms training somewhere. Just reading a book, watching a video, or attending a class is not enough - you also need to practice!!!!

This article describes firearms training methods that include, not just standing on a firing line and shooting a few bullets down range because anyone can do that. A good firearms training class teaches things like the universal safety rules, basics of self defense firearms, handgun grip, trigger control, sight picture, target acquisition, and clearing handguns as well as information on ammunition. Additionally, a laymen's understanding of local and state gun and self defense laws should be interwoven within each segment of the training.

Short Description:
The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation. It is the traditional, instructor-led course where you will receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end. This class exceeds the minimum requirements of training by the State of Florida to receive a Concealed Carry License.

This course may be completed in a single day format or over several days with smaller blocks of instruction. This class fulfills the CWL guidelines (and actually exceeds it - as listed below).
Course topics include:
Gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor and a Certified NRA Range Safety Officer. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of your NRA Certified Instructor.
The $70 price* is for destinations that fall within 25 miles of the Indian River Fairgrounds in Vero Beach. There is an additional charge of $5 for each additional 25 miles that I need to travel (rounded up to the next 25 mile increment).
