The law now allows authorized Florida residents to carry a concealed firearm or other weapons - within the state of Florida only! - without a concealed weapons license - however if you wish to travel to another state, reciprocity will not be honored if you do NOT have a Florida Concealed Handgun license.
We recommend that if you are not interested in traveling to other states with your weapons, or even if you are - that you get training somewhere. If you are not interested in getting training with us, your local Police or Sheriff Department may hold citizen classes for firearm training (you can call them for additional information).
We HIGHLY recommend that you get firearms training somewhere. Just reading a book, watching a video, or attending a class is not enough - you also need to practice!!!!
"Far too many people believe that all they need to do is attend a Concealed Carry Weapons class “get their ticket”, and - bingo! - they’re ready to hit the streets, feeling fully protected. Unfortunately, they’re wrong, and if they find themselves in an actual armed encounter, they may well be dead wrong...Manage to survive, they may well find themselves facing criminal Prosecution."
— Chuck Taylor - Concealed Carry Handguns Magazine - summer 2017
This article describes firearms training methods that include, not just standing on a firing line and shooting a few bullets down range because anyone can do that. A good firearms training class teaches things like the universal safety rules, basics of self defense firearms, handgun grip, trigger control, sight picture, target acquisition, and clearing handguns as well as information on ammunition. Additionally, a laymen's understanding of local and state gun and self defense laws should be interwoven within each segment of the training.
